The latest Highland Community Education courses for the Fall season will be up and running very soon! Don't miss out on popular courses to learn a new skill or meet like-minded adults and community members. Register today! Back by popular demand are the in-person elementary afterschool classes, including Madscience, Brixology and Crayola Arts Academy. Again this year, HCE is offering an online Spanish class for students in K-8, which includes the entire family and new offerings include Virtual Sewing Basics and Virtual Coding classes. And who can forget Hummingbirds Soccer? -- It's a fan favorite! High school students have the opportunity to enroll in ACT/SAT Test Preparation classes in the evenings or during the school day. Adults can sign up for Beekeeping, CPR, Retirement Planning, Virtual Voiceover and Stop Smoking/Weight Loss seminars. Evening classes are not restricted to Highland community residents only. The Highland Local School District is pleased to welcome Deputy Nicole Embury of the Medina County Sheriff's Office who was recently hired as the district’s new Student Resource Officer (SRO)/DARE Officer. She is assuming the duties of former DARE Officer Deputy Sharon Center who announced her retirement this past Spring after 17 years of service to the Highland Schools. Deputy Embury has over eight years of law enforcement experience and most recently worked for the Aberdeen Police Department in South Dakota, serving on patrol and as a detective. During her time in Aberdeen, she was also the lead DARE Officer, Explorer Advisor, and is a certified School Resource Officer and ALICE Instructor. She will be working closely with Highland staff and students at all grade levels to provide continued education on DARE concepts, which focus on healthy and positive lifestyle choices. Deputy Embury and her husband, an Army recruiter, reside in Medina with their three dogs.

Beginning in August 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture National School Lunch Program Food and Nutrition Services Department will be transitioning back to traditional child nutrition operations. Outlined below is what this means for you and your family. Breakfast (Middle and High) and lunch will still be available to all students; however, they will not be free to all students. This means that families will need to complete the Free and Reduced-price Family Application in Final Forms to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals must pay full price for breakfast and lunch. Elementary Lunch: $3.25 Breakfast (Middle and High): $2.50 Lunch (Middle and High): $3.50; Deluxe Lunch: $3.95 Extra Milk: $0.65 Questions? Thursday, August 18 Teachers Return Tuesday, August 23 Open House for Students in Grades K-5, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. This will offer parents and students the chance to meet teachers and school staff. Class rosters for the elementary buildings, as well as your child's bus information, will be posted to PowerSchool beginning on Wednesday, August 17. Bus information will detail your child’s bus number, pick-up location and time. To access the bus information, sign in to your PowerSchool account, then go to "Bus Information" on the left side. The Highland Local Schools is pleased to present the 2022-23 District Calendar publication, featuring the 2021-22 Annual Report, which offers information on students, staff and district statistics, district financials, as well as the district directory. The publication should arrive in mailboxes by the first week of August. New student registration is now open for the 2022-23 school year. Registration can be completed online, through the electronic submission of all required documents through FinalForms. The following items will need to be uploaded: parent identification with a picture I.D. proof of residency the child’s original birth certificate or passport the child’s complete immunization records certified custody papers (if applicable).
