The results of the Ohio Speech and Debate Association State Tournament held March 7 are in! Congratulations to state finalist Evan Buck who placed 2nd in United States Extemporaneous Speaking. Evan was also the winner of the Sharen B. Althoff Award for receiving the highest scores throughout the tournament. This award is a memorial to the Akron Districts coach who was committed to this event's excellence.

Accolades are also extended to Lauren Riley, Eris Foutz and Maxwell Mendell who broke into the Top 24 (quarter-finalists) in the State. Students who were quarter-finalists and then went on to semi-finals (Top 12 in the State) were Emma Pappas, Beau Bilinovich, Aaron Neil, Kennedy Shelton and Jacob McPherson. Jacob placed 7th in the State, just missing a spot as a finalist.

Six Highland seniors also have the distinction of being at the State Tournament all four years of their high school career and recognized for their accomplishment. Kudos to Evan Buck, Kennedy Shelton, Olivia Russo, Madelyn MacMurray, Ava Shaffer and Mia Shaffer.

The Highland team placed 9th out of 91 teams statewide and received two School of Excellence Awards.
