Congratulations to Highland High School seniors Evan Buck, son of Dan and Sherri Buck of Sharon Township; Lilia Colbrunn, daughter of Robb and Joni Colbrunn of Hinckley Township; Ressa Gasser, daughter of Chris and Dr. Angela Gasser of Sharon Township; and Erin Keller, daughter of Dave and Gerri Keller of Sharon Township, who are among the 34,000 students to be named Commended Scholars in the 65th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. They can become candidates for special scholarships provided by corporate and business sponsors.
More than 1.5 million juniors from about 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors. Less than 1 percent of high school seniors make it to the semifinal round.
The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs.
