Mental Health Services

Mental health awareness continues to be top of mind for the Highland Local School District. We currently offer mental health liaison services to all K-12 students, parents and staff at no cost, across all five Highland buildings. Students, parents or staff may request support directly or on behalf of an individual who may be struggling with identified or suspected mental health needs. Services are voluntary and do require consent in most cases. Services are available in-person or via live video conferencing and include individual sessions for purposes of screening, guidance, resources, intervention, support, crisis intervention, collaboration with outside professionals, coordination of services, linkage and/or referrals.

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7, free, and confidential support to Ohioans in a mental health crisis. Ohioans can call or text “988” to reach a trained specialist for help and support. Contact 988ohio@mha.ohio.gov for questions about the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Hazel Health Free Online Counseling Services
The Highland Local School District continues to partner with Hazel Health to provide telehealth counseling services to students. All students, including those who are insured through private insurance plans and Medicaid, can access free online counseling and therapy. Please note, these services are 100% confidential and will not be provided without guardian consent.

Through the program, your child can work one-on-one with a licensed therapist in weekly video telehealth sessions. The telehealth option is offered to help support the wellbeing of students in a manner that brings less disruption to their school day by not having to leave for appointments and parents not having to miss work.

Students can see one of Hazel Health’s therapists who specialize in supporting students who need short-term care and can help with:

  • Mood & behavior changes, motivation, grief, loss
  • Separation anxiety, worry, fears
  • Social skills, bullying, peer & family relationships
  • Academic stress
