The Highland Local School District is proud to announce Tanner Houska as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team, pending Highland Board of Education approval at the meeting that will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Houska most recently served as Highland’s Head Coach of 9th grade and Assistant Coach of Varsity Boys Basketball Teams and previously coached at Copley High School and Middle School. Houska graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The University of Akron and is employed in Client Development for Collective Intelligence.
“Coach Houska’s lifelong, deep-rooted passion for Highland Basketball combined with his competitive drive to take the program to the next level in the Suburban American League is what set him apart from other candidates who interviewed for the position,” said Highland Athletic Director Jon Bailey. “He will both model and expect high levels of performance for the players, both on the court and in the classroom, and I am confident that our athletes will be well-served by his guidance and leadership.”
“I am extremely honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Head Boys Basketball coach at a place that means so much to my family and me,” stated Coach Houska. “I am committed to building upon the strong history of excellence in athletics at Highland and hope to give back to the players the same level of encouragement, support, and mentorship that I received along my journey through the basketball program.”
Houska resides in Sharon Township.
