The Highland Local School District is proud to announce David Habat as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Wrestling Team, pending Highland Board of Education approval at the meeting that will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023.
Habat most recently served as the Head Wrestling Coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Western Reserve Academy. An accomplished Olympic wrestler, Habat began his coaching career in the State of Michigan in 2017, where he was the assistant coach at Brighten High School and for the Dundee Wrestling Team.
Habat graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He trained as an Olympic athlete with Cliff Keen Wrestling Club in Michigan. His athletic accomplishments include Bronze Medalist European Championships, Silver Medalist Mediterranean Games, four-time World Team Member Slovenia, NCAA Finalist, two-time NCAA All-American, four-time NCAA Qualifier, two-time EWL Conference Champion, and many titles in the State of Ohio.
"The Highland wrestling program has been on a consistent trajectory of improvement and forward movement in recent years," stated Jon Bailey, Highland High School Athletic Director. "Coach Habat has a natural ability to build relationships and make connections with student-athletes by meeting skill levels where they are and working with that individual to build upon their strengths to ensure that they reach their fullest athletic potential. He takes a holistic approach by investing time, making connections, and improving performances, which sets him apart in his ability to elevate the entire Highland wrestling program."
Habat resides in Bath Township with his family.
