Facemask Requirement Upon Return to School

Dear Highland Families,

Due to the rising number of reported COVID-19 cases in our district and throughout Medina County, the Highland School District will implement a mask requirement for all students, staff and visitors upon return from Winter Break. Masks will be required in all schools, on school buses, at indoor athletic events and in performing arts’ venues beginning January 3 and will remain in effect until January 17.

During that time, the district will continue to assess and monitor COVID-19 cases among our students, teachers and staff and will communicate any adjustments, as needed.

The district recognizes that medical and developmental exemptions to facemasks exist and all previously requested mask exemptions will be permitted. Please see additional information or request a new exemption HERE.

Our goal is to keep our students and staff safely in school, in person, five days a week. Wearing a face covering is one of several preventive measures within a multilayered approach that can help mitigate the rapid spread of COVID-19 and its variants in our schools and our communities.

As a reminder, if your student is ill or exhibiting any symptoms of the virus, please do not send him/her to school. The CDC has recently updated guidance that reduces the isolation period for individuals who have tested positive. Once we receive additional guidance from the Ohio Department of Health on that change, we will communicate that to you.

Thank you,
Catherine Aukerman
Superintendent
