4.7 Mill Substitute Levy on May Ballot

Dear Highland Parents and Community Members,

We want to take this opportunity to inform you that the Highland Schools will be asking voters to pass a 4.7 mill Substitute Levy on the upcoming May 4 ballot. THIS IS NOT A TAX INCREASE.

This levy is a “substitute” for the current 5.1 mill, 10 year emergency levy, which will expire on December 31, 2021. It will initially generate $4.6 million -- the same amount as the current levy. But, unlike the expiring levy, the substitute levy allows for additional revenue when there is new construction within the district.

The passage of this substitute levy is critical for the day-to-day operation of our school district as it funds educational basics including teachers, classroom materials, support services and utilities to help educate all students.

Please download the attached FACT SHEET for more information. We will be sending several updates prior to the May 4 ballot to provide you with additional facts on the levy. This is an important issue for our district. To learn more, please visit:

On a side note, early voting began on Tuesday, April 6.

Thank you for your consideration!
Catherine Aukerman, Superintendent
