Congratulations to Highland seniors Nicholas McFadden and Cecilia Mainzer who were chosen as Students of the Year at Highland High School.
Nicholas is an exemplary leader in school and the community. He is a dedicated member of Student Council, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Sinfonia Orchestra, Speech and Debate Team and YAF. He serves as a Senior Class Officer, Peer Leader, 6th Grade Camp Counselor and an NHS Tutor. Nick is a standout athlete on Highland’s Track and Field Team and Football Team. Outside of school, he serves as a volunteer for the Children’s Center of Medina County, is a member of 4H and has also assisted with four Eagle Scout projects. He is the son of Jason and Michelle McFadden of Sharon Township and plans to study financial planning at the University of Akron upon his graduation from Highland.
Cecilia is also an outstanding student at HHS. She has taken numerous AP, college preparatory and honors classes while holding leadership positions in various group. She is a Peer Leader, DARE Role Models, member of the Speech and Debate Team, Sinfonia Orchestra, Academic Challenge, SADD, NHS and is the HHS yearbook editor. She was the recipient of the Magna Cum Laude Award for the National Latin Exam, Homecoming Queen and was selected to represent Ohio at the National 4-H Conference. Outside of Highland, she is an active member of both the Medina County Jr. Fair Board and Medina County Fashion and Nutrition Board, as well as the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council. She not only exceeds in academics and leadership, but also gives her time to the community as a volunteer. Throughout her four years, she was an activist and volunteer for Feeding Medina County, served as a camp counselor and at Hinckley Buzzard Day and was a facilitator at the Sister to Sister Conference. She is the daughter of Doug and Julie Mainzer of Hinckley Township and plans to attend the University of Akron to study engineering.
