Language Arts Workshop consists of a variety of activities that your child will be responsible for weekly and quarterly. Some of the activities are embedded within the regular lesson (Journaling, Grammar, Poetry Café) and some are completed independently (Accelerated Reader).
Journaling– Students will keep a composition book in the classroom that they will be required to free-write from teacher-provided prompts. At the end of the quarter, the journals will be checked for completion. They will not be graded for spelling or grammar.
Vocabulary-Students will be creating vocabulary frames in the second half of his or her composition book. These frames are the students work with the word in a visual form.

Grammar worksheets/packets-These will be stand alone or embedded into writing assignments.
Poetry Café-Students will be learning about and composing various types of poetry throughout the year. They will keep completed works and all handouts in their Poetry Café Notebook (1”, 3-ring binder). Approximately once per month, students will participate in a Poetry Café Reading to share a poem that he or she composed. Parents are asked to volunteer café items for this poetry celebration.
