The following motivational video was created by Taylor Rininger, 8th grader at Highland Middle School, to support classroom material and encourage empathy. Plate tectonics is a major focus of the 8th grade science curriculum and this year, students were sadly able to understand the consequences of plate subduction. A few days after the earth science class studied the causes of earthquakes and volcanoes, the 9.0 earthquake struck northern Japan causing the tsunami that devastated the region. The students rallied to collect $170 for the disaster victims and the money was sent to the American Red Cross. Taylor did an outstanding job capturing the devastation caused by the tsunami. According to her teacher, Mrs. Anne Warmbrodt, Taylor is a student who often reaches out to others and hopes to become a doctor someday. [More] [Less] |
