DIG DEEP...
READING IS
THE TREASURE!

Each year, the Highland elementary schools collaborate to encourage students to develop a love of learning and reading. The yearly reading theme program begins in October and is designed to encourage additional reading outside of school and at home. This year's theme focuses on the keys to comprehension including: Visualization, Connections (Background Knowledge), Questions, Details, Main Ideas and Inference.    Students will learn about each of these specific areas as they strive to read 500 minutes during each month of the school year. Every month, they will be given a calendar to keep track of minutes and calendars are filled with book suggestions and mystery clues about each of the sub-theme. There are also plans for special programs and/or assemblies at each school that coincide with the theme of DIG DEEP...READING IS THE TREASURE! Readers earn rewards for logging 1,000 minutes or more.
