Kindergarten Registration is March 15 Highland Kindergarten Registration for the 2012-13 school year will be held on Thursday, March 15 at Granger, Hinckley and Sharon elementary schools. In order to register, a child must be five years old by September 30, 2012, and the following items are needed at the time of registration: personal identification with a picture I.D. of the adult registering the child; proof of residency; the child’s original birth certificate or passport; child’s complete immunization records; and certified custody papers (if applicable).
It is important for the District to have an accurate count of incoming kindergarten students in order to prepare for next school year, so please be sure to register on this day and also let neighbors know this information if they will have young children just starting school. Please note the following times to register: Last names beginning with:
- A-L: 8-10 a.m.
- M-R: 10 a.m. to 12 noon
- S-Z: 1-3 p.m
Registration forms are available online and should expedite the process if you bring them filled out. Forms will also be available at registration. It is not necessary for the children to accompany the parents at registration. The principals, secretaries and nurses will be on hand to verify the necessary paperwork and address any concerns parents have.
------------------------------------ Reading Theme
“Dig Deep…Reading is the Treasure” is this year’s reading theme that will emphasize how to use reading clues to unlock the treasures you find in books. Just as pirates had to figure out clues on treasure maps to find secret hidden treasures, you will be learning about reading clues and earning treasures for your efforts.
You can earn a variety of secret treasures this year by uncovering the reading clues, using them at home to read each night and turning in your monthly reading calendar. Each quarter, 1,000 minutes of reading earns you a trip to the treasure box! I am challenging each of our students to read and participate in our reading program this year. In the end, you will find that the secret treasure hidden in many different books is new knowledge.
To help Granger Elementary be the best school in the world requires everyone to respect each other. We need to all create a beautiful school by cleaning up after ourselves, completing our work so that we are proud of our efforts, and treating each and every person the way we want to be treated. Everyone will be making good deed bead markers this year and will use them to remind ourselves to be kind and polite, which will also help make this a wonderful school year!
Below is an acrostic poem to remind you about making this school year a real treasure!
DIG DEEP…
Responsible for your own actions Enjoy sharing your ideas politely and listen to others’ ideas Act kindly toward others Decide to make good decisions and stick to them Invite others to play Never give up…ask questions if you need help Give your best on all your assignments
IS THE
Take time every day to learn, relax and count your blessings Read every day and think about what you read Examine your work and see how to improve it Always remember to look for the good in others Stop and think before you act Understand that learning begins with asking questions Remember to keep your materials/desk neat and organized Expect the best year ahead by having a positive attitude
