Welcome to the 2013-14 School Year
Highland Local School District is a benchmark of educational excellence. Our students have access to the highest quality programs, a full complement of both
curricular and extra-curricular offerings and an experienced instructional staff – all of which are the envy of school districts across the State.
Highland is a leader in education where our vision, mission and goals have created both the foundation and framework that continues to promote a culture of high performance – academically, athletically and within all areas of the fine and performing arts. We have been rated “Excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education for the past 13 years. The State awarded Highland with the designation of “Excellent with Distinction” in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012, which is Ohio’s highest rating.
As our county grows, so does the student body of the Highland Schools. Our District now serves more than 3,200 students representing seven townships from across 78 square miles in northeast Medina County. We are comprised of five schools – three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
In May 2013, Highland High School was named one of “America’s Best High Schools” by Newsweek in its 2013 ranking. Newsweek highlights the best 2,000 public high schools in the nation that have proved to be the most effective in turning out college-ready graduates. Highland High School was the only Medina County school and one of only 77 schools in Ohio to make the list. During the 2011-12 school year, 87 percent of Highland graduates were college bound. Additionally, Highland boasts an average SAT score of 1684, an average ACT score of 23.7 and an average score of 3.7 on Advanced Placement tests.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our District and we hope you have an enjoyable school year.
