Welcome to the 2011-12 School Year

Welcome to the 2011-12 school year! This year promises to be a continued celebration of the legacy of excellence that defines our school system.

Highland is a benchmark of educational excellence. Our students have access to the highest quality programs, a full complement of both curricular and extra-curricular offerings and an experienced instructional staff – all of which are the envy of school districts across the State. Highland continues to be a leader in education where our vision, mission and goals have created both the foundation and framework that continues to promote a culture of high performance – academically, athletically and within all areas of the fine and performing arts.

As our county grows, so does the student body of the Highland Schools. Our District now serves more than 3,300 students representing seven townships from across 78 square miles in northeast Medina County. We are comprised of five schools – three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school, where our students are challenged by enthusiastic teachers, support staff and administrators who are highly qualified and exceptionally prepared to meet the changing and challenging needs of all students. They all recognize that a high quality education has an exponential impact on quality of life, now and in the future.

Testament to this is the Highland Class of 2011. The 259 members of this class have accepted over $3.4 million dollars in academic and athletic scholarships. With three valedictorians and two salutatorians, the class included a National Merit Scholarship winner and two National Merit Finalists. Additionally, 51 graduates were members of the National Honor Society, 64 earned the State of Ohio Honors Diploma – a very high standard that includes a 3.5 GPA and a 27 composite on the ACT, and 84 earned the State Award of Merit for graduating with a 3.0 and higher GPA.

The 2011-12 school year promises to provide both opportunities and challenges. The staff members of our District will continue to work together to provide the best educational experience for all of our students. It is our hope, that as a community, you will continue to join us in celebrating and supporting Highland’s “Legacy of Excellence.”

Thank you,
Catherine Aukerman
