Eighth Grade Guys Choir
Several years ago, a new and unique idea was contemplated: the Eighth Grade Guys Choir. Since then, the establishment has grown to contain over 20 students, and has been the finale of all Highland Middle School choir concerts. The Eighth Grade Guys Choir is a group open to any guys in the eighth grade choir. Only a few of the guys in choir choose not to join this organization. The guys are directed by Mr. Ilg. They generally meet every Friday after school, with a sufficient amount of snacks and refreshments. The reputation of the Eighth Grade Guys has always been to sing songs from the fifties, sixties, and any other songs of their choice. The Eighth Grade Guys have always been the center of the Highland Middle School choir concerts. The soloists for each song always receive a great deal of applause from the audience, especially the eighth grade girls.

National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society or NJHS is an organization of seventh and eighth grade students who qualify. NJHS is more than just an honor roll. Grades are just one of five areas by which students are chosen. Membership is an honor bestowed upon students by the faculty on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character.

HMS Newspaper
The Stinger is a monthly newspaper produced by HMS students in grades 6-8. The paper provides the opportunity for students to have an outlet for their writing, artwork and interests. We meet after school once or twice a week for planning and fun! If students cannot make the after school meetings, they can still be members using their study hall or home base time. The schedule is flexible, but the deadlines are important. Please send your articles in via email if you cannot make a meeting. Writers and photographers for the paper experience the real life experience of meeting deadlines and seeing a paper move from the idea stage to the actual monthly publication. Students interested in writing for The Stinger should contact Miss Klucar.

Power of the Pen
Power of the Pen is a club for any 7th and 8th grade students interested in creative writing. Meetings are held on Tuesdays after school until 3:45 in room 706. Students are given a topic each week and 40 minutes to write. Stories (essays, etc.) may be shared or given to the advisor for evaluation. Two teams are chosen (a 7th grade team of 6 students and an 8th grade team of 6) to attend a district writing competition in February. Qualifying writers go on to a regional competition in March and possibly a state competition in May.

Ski Club
The Highland Middle School Ski Club membership is offered to any sixth, seventh or eighth grader. The membership fee is for a Brandywine Ski Resort school pass and includes:
