We are proud to present the 2017-18 calendar, featuring the 2016-17 annual report. This year, we take a special look at our district's facilities over the years. A lot has changed from our district's beginnings. From our first graduating class in 1953 to today's "Hornet Nation" of 280 graduates in 2017, we have much to be proud of ~ past, present and future. DISTRICT CALENDAR & ANNUAL REPORT
For the upcoming school year, we will focus heavily on our district’s facilities. After a two-year comprehensive study of all of our district’s facilities and a community engagement process involving a Facilities Advisory Committee, multiple online surveys, numerous listening sessions and phone surveys, the Board of Education has reached a decision to build three new elementary schools and to renovate the existing middle school. That decision is in line with the recommendations from both the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) and the feedback the Board has received from parents and the community over the past two years. In order for those new facilities to become a reality, the district will place a bond issue on the November 2017 ballot. If the new facilities are to become a reality, we will need the community’s support of this important issue. We encourage you to visit our website at highlandschools.org to learn more about this process, overall conditions of our buildings and plans for the future. Information can be found on the homepage under Quick Links/About Our Facilities.
The future remains bright for our students and our communities and we are excited by the thought of moving our district forward. We hope you enjoy this year’s calendar, which features several historical photos depicting the schools throughout the years ~ some, even before the official consolidation in 1952.
