HMS Students Celebrate Pi Day

Students in Mrs. Anna Taylor's classes celebrated the day of a famous irrational number, pi, the quotient of a circle’s circumference and diameter. Students memorized as many digits as they could to compete for a real pie. Congratulations to the following students who won a pie for their outstanding effort: Elijah Hadler with 259 digits memorized; Nandini Pande with 158 digits; and Ethan Miller with 97 digits. Pictured from left are Ethan Miller, Nandini Pande and Elijah Hadler.

Two Advance to State Writing Tournament

Eliza LaddKatie CritchettCongratulations to Highland Middle School 8th grader Eliza Ladd and 7th grader Katie Critchett who placed during the Northeast Ohio Regional Power of the Pen Tournament on February 23 at Kent State University. Eliza placed 3rd, while Katie placed 6th. Both now advance to the state tournament, which will be held in May at the College of Wooster. Eliza is the daughter of Randy and Susan Ladd of Granger, and Katie is the daughter of Heath and Kelly Critchett of Hinckley Township. Now in its 33rd year, Power of the Pen is Ohio's award-winning educational enhancement program devoted to excellence in creative writing at the middle school level.

2019 Community Education Courses

Highland Community Education courses for Winter/Spring include several new and fun options! Students in grades K-5 can enroll in exciting classes featuring an Engineering Club, Mad Science and World of Design by Crayola. Also new this season is Live, Love & Create Craft Club for students in grades 3-5, The Money Game for ages 10+ and don't forget about the ever-popular Hummingbirds Soccer and Young Rembrandt's Art courses. Students can also try their hand at Babysitting, Dining Etiquette, Fun-Damentals of Cooking and a new instructional basketball program. Adult classes are offered in Beekeeping, Beginning Guitar, Retirement Planning, Smoking Cessation, Weight Loss Control, Toxic Awareness and more.
